A site for Mature Gay Men to meet and socialise

The Mature Gay Mens Group was established and first met in Fontaine’s Bar, Thorpe St, Birmingham in December 2002 by two friends Trevor Hall and John Hurst. They had realised at that time there were no suitable venues or events available for the more mature gay man to meet socially without loud music and social pressures of the gay scene in Birmingham predominantly occupied by the young. They felt that there was a need to provide a regular event where guys with similar outlooks could meet and socialise.

The Group offers its members a safe and comfortable setting to meet for an evening of social interaction. It gives members a reason to get out of the house once a month for an evening. Many of the members have been attending the group for a number of years and so have developed strong friendships within the group. This often extends into their daily lives as strong  friendships are formed. This gives members support and help with life and its trials and tribulations. It is important to note that the group is not run as a pick up point or meeting venue for sex practices.

Members are happy and willing to include new members within the group and every effort is made to make all newcomers feel welcome.

Although it is called the Mature Gay Mens Group any individual would not be turned away due to their age. Membership is open to all who would feel a benefit to them joining and gaining support from the group. The group welcomes all regardless of race, religion or disability. Often our members are mature gentlemen who feel unable to attend many events in the gay community because they do not identify with those groups. Some mature gay men are often isolated individuals who have few friends or family whom they can turn to.

It is of great benefit for any individual to have the opportunity to spend time with likeminded people and feel included within the community and society.

Throughout the year we run group events for members and their guests that include a Summer BBQ, Dine with Daddy Sunday Lunches and a Christmas Dinner. In the past there have been Garden Parties, Picnic in the Park, Birthday Parties, trips to the Theatre and other places of interest within the UK and other events organised for the group. We also join other LGBT groups for events and functions.

The Group meets on every First Tuesday of the Month, except in January when there is no meeting held due to the inclement weather and the excesses of Christmas and New Year. We assemble in The Fox, Lower Essex St, Birmingham from 7.30pm till approximately 10.30pm. The Landlord Andy King is an excellent host and looks after our needs perfectly and offers a wide range of beverages. At the meeting a raffle is usually run and a light buffet is served free of charge to members.

Membership: You are allowed two visits to the club, and then you will be asked if you would like to consider becoming a member. The yearly cost of membership is £5.00, and the fee will be collected yearly from April.
